Palo Alto Networks™, the network security company, today announced that its Threat Research Team has discovered three vulnerabilities in today's Microsoft Patch Tuesday security bulletin all of which affect using Microsoft Visio (more). Microsoft credited Palo Alto Networks' Threat Research Team with finding CVE-2011-0092 (Visio Object Memory Corruption Vulnerability) and CVE-2011-0093 (Visio Data Type Memory Corruption Vulnerability), and CVE-2011-0031 (Scripting Engines Information Disclosure Vulnerability).
All three of the following vulnerabilities are categorized as important:
- Visio Object Memory Corruption Vulnerability
A remote code execution vulnerability exists in the way that Microsoft Visio validates objects in memory when parsing specially crafted Visio files. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system. An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights. - Visio Data Type Memory Corruption Vulnerability
A remote code execution vulnerability exists in the way that Microsoft Visio parses certain structures when handling specially crafted Visio files. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system. An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights. - Scripting Engines Information Disclosure Vulnerability
This information disclosure vulnerability exists in the JScript and VBScript scripting engines due to a memory corruption error. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could read data not intended to be disclosed.
